Enrollment

EnrollNowApplication starts for enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year. Our purpose is to enable our students to reach their maximum potential in all subject areas with special emphasis on mathematics and science.

 

SWBA is open to any student residing in Alachua County who submit a timely application. An application can be through Web, mail, or hand-delivered. The school admits students of any race, color, national origin, religion or gender. The school has an enrollment period (see the timetable below). After the capacity is filled, a waiting list will be formed. The waiting list will also be formed through lottery. If needed, the lottery will be repeated until all spots are filled for the remainder of the enrollment process. During the lottery process, all applicants who applied by the deadline will have an equal opportunity in the drawing.

As provided for in Florida’s Charter School Legislation, SWBA will give enrollment priority to the following student populations:

  • Students who are the siblings of a student enrolled in the charter school; and
  • Students who are the children of an employee or founding board member of the charter school.

Students in these categories will be admitted automatically. If the applicants in the above priority groups exceed vacancies, a special lottery will be held. Any premature vacancies due to student withdrawals will be filled in the same way described above. Students may withdraw from the charter school at any time and enroll in another public school as determined by the policy set by the School Board of Alachua County.

Note: Public lottery will be held in the presence of a public notary, an administrator, and a parent.

 

September to April

Announce information about the school’s educational program, application procedure, and admission process through a number of sources, including: the school’s webpage, direct mailing of brochures, local newspapers and open houses at the school.  Lottery is held if the number of applicants is larger than the targeted number of students.

Jan 11th to March 21st

Applications are accepted. Review applications for completeness and eligibility of students (e.g. appropriate grade levels, non-district applications etc.). Inform parents of the status of their application, student eligibility, date of lottery-April 8 @4:30 pm (if needed), and date of final notification. Lottery is held if the number of applicants is larger than the targeted number of students.

April 1st - April 15th

Registrations are completed for lottery winners

April 15th to August

Invitations are extended to students until all available slots are filled.
