Atlanta Field Trip – October 17-18, 2009 PDF Print E-mail

We had a field trip to Atlanta over the weekend to visit the World of Coca Cola and to participate in the Annual Turkish Festival. We had a fantastic time together.

We had 22 students, 3 parents, and 7 teachers in our group.  Everyone loved the Turkish food and had a chance to try a variety of cultural food including Kababs, Gyros, and  Baklavas just to name a few. Ladies spent quite a bit time in front of the jewelry stands to purchase some handcrafted jewelry. One of our students, Sahil Patel, won a Turkish rug in the raffle. After the raffle, we enjoyed listening to the world famous Ottoman military band called Mehter and instrumental Turkish folk music performed by a musician group led by Omer Faruk Tekbilek.

We also took pictures together wearing traditional Ottoman style costumes.

After a nice breakfast on Sunday morning, we headed to  downtown Atlanta to see the World of Coca Cola. Our students had a chance to learn about the history of a worldwide company and to experience how a big company can be born from nothing. They saw the artifacts collected from all over the world, some dating back to 1880s. We watched a 4-D movie and Coca Cola commercials that were broadcast all over the world. Our most favorite place was on the second floor where we had a chance to actually taste some Coca Cola products sold in other continents.

These are some highlights from our two day trip to Atlanta. Looking forward to our next field trip.
