Dear Students & Parents,
We have had a great start to the 2010-2011 school year. There are currently 135 students in Elementary and 125 students in Middle and High School, bringing our total enrollment to 260 and the student to teacher ratio is 13:1.

We are very happy with the degree of parent involvement we have in our school and we are very proud of our Parent Volunteer Organization. In order to make our student, parent and teacher connection even stronger SWBA teachers researched and came up with the idea of home visits.

Our school team placed ninth overall among 54 schools in Florida that were able to make it to the state level competition. This is the school’s second year attending the Science Olympiad and is the highest place it has finished so far.

We are pleased to inform you that SWBA Solar Energy Team got 1st Place in Statewide Energy Whiz Olympics on MAY 1st, 2010 in Cocoa, FL. Congratulation to our science teacher Mr. Tunc and the team for this wonderful achievement.

We had a field trip to the Wild Adventures Water & Theme Park on Friday, May 21, 2010. We had so much fun at the park. It was a blast!

On Friday May 28th, 2010, SWBA students showed their skills on the dance floor during our first school dance and 8th grade social. 6th and 7th graders were given an hour to eat, dance and socialize with all grades.

The 1st Living Biography Social Studies Fair Contest was a success at Sweetwater Branch Academy. The primary goal of the contest was to stimulate interest and achievement in Social Studies among the students at SWBA. The contest was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 during school hours. The museum came alive at Sweet-water! The contestants dressed as the famous person in history, wrote an informative essay about the individuals life and created a tri-fold board displaying pictures and in-teresting facts. The ballots were filled out by the entire school and the voting deter-mined that the winners were-

We would like to congratulate Brandon Matthews, 6th grade student, for being placed 5th in Florida in the Math League Contest and 3rd in the regional level.

Application starts for enrollment for the 2009-2010 & 2010-2011 school year. Our purpose is to enable our students to reach their maximum potential in all subject areas with special emphasis on mathematics and science.

We reached another goal in our first year. Our school is an 'A' school based on 2009 FCAT results. This is a great achievement for a first year school in addition to medals that our students won in regional and statewide Science Olympiad competitions.

SWBA Connect is a tracking system in which you can view your student’s grades. You can also learn upcoming events in each of your child's classes.

Sweetwater Branch Academy After School Clubs start at 3:30 pm and end at 4:15 pm. SWBA also provides weekend and morning studies.

32 Students graduated from SWBA on June 11, 2010. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Congratulations to SWBA Science Olympiad, Math, Energy Whiz, Future City, Lego League, Science Bowl teams for their wonderful results in Regional and State Wide competitions this year. We are proud of you!

Our 8th grade graduation picnic was a blast. We met on Saturday, July 5th, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Kanapaha Veteran’s Park and played soccer and basketball. After the picnic, some of the 8th graders and Dr. Baslanti went to the movies to continue the fun.

The Sweetwater Branch Academy Talent Show 2010 was a success! The talent ranged from stand-up comedians, songbirds, dancers, gymnast and poets. The crowd was thrilled by the wide range of variety and the amount of talented students.

Let me be the first to say that these boys did a phenomenal job on the court and honestly, that was the best series of games we ever played. With both games tight, we entered our moment of becoming a true team and winning those games.

The prestigious Duke University Talent Identification Program identified 2 seventh graders at Sweetwater Branch Academy, Jessica Lipori and Cullan Hennessy, as being eligible to par-ticipate in its Seventh Grade Talent Search.
